A Chicago woman has been arrested for murdering and stealing a pregnant teen’s baby in the most heinous manner possible, cutting the unborn fetus from her womb with a butcher’s knife.

Clarisa Figueroa, also known as the “womb raider,” received a 50-year sentence after being found guilty of brutally murdering a 19-year-old pregnant teenager and passing off her baby as her own. Her 29-year-old daughter, Desiree Figueroa, faces 30 years in prison for assisting her mother in carrying out the horrible murder.

The horrifying murder took place after the mother-daughter combo enticed the pregnant woman, Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, into their home by promising to provide free infant items to her. Clarisa strangled her with a cable after invading her home because she was nine months pregnant. Clarisa called 911 after suffocating her, stating she had given birth to a baby who couldn’t breathe.

Desiree told investigators that she peeled Clarisa’s fingers off the cord while the adolescent struggled, then brought her mother a knife to cut open her abdomen to remove the baby. Marlen died from the severe stabbing, and her infant died roughly two months later. Marlen’s lifeless body was later found in a garbage can outside the house.

Clarisa allegedly plotted the murder months in advance. On her Facebook profile, she even shared ultrasound scans and pictures of a baby-themed room, indicating that she was planning something. Clarisa also convinced her then-boyfriend Piotr Bobak that the child was his until DNA testing revealed otherwise.

Yovanny Lopez, Marlen’s spouse and kid’s father, was shaken by the murder and revealed his extreme anguish at the loss of his wife and child. In a statement read in both English and Spanish during the court hearing, he said in part: “The memory of my infant son’s last breath in my arms is complete agony,” and concluded: “God’s justice will be served upon you on the day you die.”
