Four people were shot and killed on a Chicago commuter train on the morning of Labor Day, September 2. A suspect, who has not been officially identified, has been arrested.

According to a police news statement released on the Village of Forest Park’s official Facebook page, the shooting took place at the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)’s Blueline Station at 711 Desplaines Ave. in Forest Park, Ill., a Chicago suburb.

Police were summoned shortly before 5:30 a.m., and when they arrived, they discovered four victims, three of whom were pronounced dead on the site. According to the announcement, a fourth person was brought to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood before being pronounced dead.

When police came, the gunman had fled. Following a check of CTA Security video footage, police nabbed a man who matched the description on another CTA train. A firearm was found, and the suspect was arrested.

“This appears to be an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the community,” the news statement reads.

Authorities have not named either the victims or the suspect. “Although this was an isolated incident, this heinous and egregious act of violence should never have occurred, let alone on a public transit train,” the CTA stated in a statement provided to PEOPLE. ”

As soon as this matter was reported, CTA swiftly mobilized resources to help the Forest Park Police in their investigation, including a review of all available security camera material, which proved critical in assisting local enforcement.
