Central Indiana will get its first severe arctic blast of the season late Wednesday night through Thursday early. Subzero wind chills and heavy winds are likely to create hazardous conditions for both residents and commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, temperatures will swiftly plummet as an arctic front approaches, causing wind chills to go below zero.
Snow showers will accompany the cold air, with accumulations of less than an inch; nevertheless, untreated roadways, particularly along I-70, may see flash freezing, making travel dangerous.
Wind gusts are forecast to reach 45 mph overnight, with the highest winds coming between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. These gusts may cause blowing snow, decreasing visibility for cars.
Residents are encouraged to secure outside decorations and use caution when traveling, especially in the early morning hours.
The weather will be harsh on Thursday, with wind chills below zero until mid-morning. High temperatures will barely reach the upper 20s, with winds gradually decreasing by nightfall.
