Couple Charged With Cruelty to Children

Lesa Dawn Davenport, 31, and William Auston Davenport III, 45. both of Rome, were arrested this week after reports said they took their minor children outside at 5 am while they were naked claiming they had worms in their skin.

Reports stated that the couple later admitted to smoking methamphetamine.

A bed of meth was later recovered from inside their home on Tency Lane.

Both are charged with possession of meth amphetamine and cruelty to children.

Sunday Morning Accident Takes Life of Chattooga Resident

The Georgia State Patrol continues an investigation into a Sunday morning car crash that took the life of a Chattooga County man.  Sheriff Mark Schrader said that the Georgia State Patrol has brought in the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) to aid in the investigation.  Sheriff Schrader confirmed that thirty-eight-year-old Chris Hines of Lyerly was the victim of the accident that happened on Old Holland Road.  Family members of the crash victim have set up a Go Fund Me account to assist in funeral expenses.

Chattooga Lady Indians Defeat Armuchee Lady Indians in Friday Game

The Chattooga Lady Indians defeated the Armuchee Lady Indians on Friday evening in a game that was scheduled for Thursday but had to be delayed because of strong thunderstorms that struck the area shortly before the game was to be played.

Chattooga’s Clara Wyatt allowed only one run on five hits during six innings of play.  Wyatt struck out seven of Armuchee’s players and yielded no walks.

The Varsity Chattooga Lady Indians defeated Armuchee 13-1.

Summerville Man Arrested for Child Molestation

A seventy-six-year-old Mahan Road, Summerville man was arrested this week and charged with child molestation after an investigation by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

James Bowen Sumner was arrested at his residence after an allegation that he had inappropriate contact with a child under the age of twelve.  Sheriff Schrader said that it was a single incident that was reported to the sheriff’s office.

According to Sheriff Schrader, Sumner was arrested in 2011 on a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery.

Sumner was released from the Chattooga County Jail on a $30,000 property bond under the condition that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 16.

Assault and Kidnapping at Love’s Travel Stop

Calhoun Police have issued warrants for three men and a woman in connection with an assault and kidnapping at the Love’s Travel Stop on Belwood Road in Calhoun that occurred back on July 2. Police are searching for 48-year old Stanford Deas, 21-year old William Deas and Dylan Deas, all of Dalton, after the beating of a 55-year old Oregon man as 35-year old Vanessa Harden of Chatsworth looked on.

Traci Sanders Arrested at China City Restaurant

Traci Lynn Sanders, 47 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said she was found in possession of methamphetamine at the China City Restaurant on Martha Berry Boulevard.

Reports aid that police also located a glass smoking device on her.   She is also accused of giving police a fake name.

Sanders is charged with possession of meth, possession of drug related objects, giving false information to police and parole violation.
