NEW YORK – On Thursday, a police officer shot and killed a man accused of fatally stabbing an 8-year-old boy in Queens, according to the New York City Police Department.
According to authorities, the stabbing was most likely the result of a domestic disagreement, but the specifics were unclear. According to police, the 20-year-old suspect and the male victim, who is eight years old, maybe brothers or stepbrothers. No names were immediately released.
The event took place inside an apartment building on 94th Avenue in the borough’s Jamaica district. Around 5:20 p.m., police said a 29-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the back exited the building and rushed down the street to MTA Police to get assistance. At the same time, the building’s security desk dialed 911.

Officers arrived within three minutes and went to a fifth-floor apartment after speaking with a witness, authorities said.

Police said when they entered the residence, they discovered the suspect holding his 43-year-old father at knifepoint.
“What they found was our perpetrator holding his father in a headlock with a knife to his throat,” NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell explained.
The suspect allegedly disobeyed numerous demands to drop the knife, prompting an officer to fire one bullet, which struck the suspect. Officers responded instantly, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

According to CBSNEWS, an 8-month-old baby was also present in the flat at the time of the event but was unharmed.
“Just a reminder of what it’s like to be a New York City police officer, walking into situations and making hasty decisions. “And by making those decisions, they saved two lives tonight,” Chell explained.
Police body cameras caught footage of the shooting.
According to police, the 29-year-old lady and the 43-year-old man were both taken to local hospitals for treatment for injuries. Both are likely to survive.
The investigation is underway.
