ORLANDO, Fla. – A Brevard County school bus driver was arrested on Monday after allegedly punching a 12-year-old kid.
Melbourne Police responded to a complaint from the South Alternative Learning Center for a disturbance on a school bus transferring pupils to the facility. During their investigation, authorities discovered that the bus driver, William Green, 59, of Palm Bay, had stopped the bus and challenged the kid.
According to authorities, Green forced the student into a seat and wrapped his hands around the boy’s neck. Multiple kids witnessed the assault, which was captured on video footage from the bus, according to authorities.
“Very traumatic experience for my kid, getting attacked by his bus driver,” the child’s father told FOX 35 News. “That’s crazy. It enraged me; I wanted to do it my way, but the Melbourne police took care of it.”
Green was arrested without incident on the accusation of child abuse without serious bodily harm.
“The Brevard Public School District is fully cooperating with the police,” a spokesman told FOX 35 News. “The driver will not be with students as the district completes its internal investigation.”
“I’m gonna push the issue as far as we can take it because, I mean, if we just let it slip through the cracks, this will just happen to somebody else’s kid,” said the child’s dad.
The Melbourne Police Department continues to investigate the situation.
