An off-duty Atlanta police officer shot a shooter who opened fire on a food court Tuesday afternoon, hurting three people.
At around 2:30 p.m., police responded to the Peachtree Center in downtown Atlanta.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens stated that four individuals were shot, including the alleged shooter, at the Peachtree Center Food Court. He informed X that the building was currently on lockdown.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum stated that a 34-year-old man entered the food court and got into a dispute with another man. The suspected shooter, a convicted felon with 11 arrests, shot the male and two other women. An off-duty Atlanta Zone 1 police officer shot the suspect, ending the confrontation.

Schierbaum stated that the suspect had spent prison time for armed robbery and “should never have been in possession of a gun.”
Mayor Dickens hailed the responding police who injured the gunman, stating, “Had he not been there, things could have gotten worse.”
The victims included a 47-year-old man and two ladies, one aged 69 and the other aged 70. All casualties were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Peachtree Center is a cluster of office towers and an underground mall located within a few streets from multiple hotels that cater to Atlanta’s active convention market.

Several blocks of Peachtree Street were cordoned off with crime scene tape when police and firefighters arrived.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation because it is an officer-involved shooting.
