Robyn Rogers, 44, a cheer coach and child development instructor at an Arizona charter school, has been arrested and charged with hiding and sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy who was reported missing after fleeing his home in February, according to authorities.

The 17-year-old was discovered last week outside a residence along State Highway 95 and Palo Verde Boulevard. According to local news outlet AZFamily, the youngster was observed escaping out of the back of the house while Lake Havasu City Police interviewed Rogers. Police pursued and captured him.

She is charged with three counts of sexual contact with a juvenile, obstructing prosecution, and false reporting to law enforcement. The 44-year-old woman was also charged with possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Law&Crime attempted to contact Telesis Preparatory Academy by email and phone on Thursday, and a spokeswoman confirmed that Rogers was no longer employed there.

Today’s News-Herald stated that Rogers was identified as a teacher at Telesis Preparatory Academy in Lake Havasu City until July 12, when her name was removed from the school’s staff directory list. A cached version of the page, however, revealed that Telesis described her as a cheerleading coach, a teacher of child development and life skills, a school athletic liaison, and a board of directors liaison. The school district’s superintendent told Today’s News-Herald that Rodgers was no longer working at the charter school.

Rogers is now being held at the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office on a $30,000 bond. It is unclear if she has hired an attorney, and Law&Crime’s request for records or bond information was not immediately replied to.

When police spoke with Rogers at the home on Highway 95 and Palo Verde, they concluded that the 17-year-old boy and the 44-year-old woman had a sexual relationship and that she was harboring him after he fled his home on February 14, also known as Valentine’s Day, according to AZFamily.

Investigators only knew to show up at the Lake Havasu City property after receiving witness tips.
