An Alabama dad who was awaiting trial in connection with the death of his kid with special needs has passed away.
After the murder of their son, 19-year-old Logan Halstead, whose bones were discovered in a backyard freezer, Michael Shane Halstead and Karen Tysinger Halstead, both 44, were charged with careless manslaughter and corpse abuse. These charges were brought down around the end of the previous year.
As of this week, the court records that were made public indicate that Michael Halstead passed away around 7:45 p.m. on July 7. However, he was released from jail on bond at the time of his death, although the cause of death was not immediately clear.
In December, the trial of Karen Halstead is expected to take place.

Logan Halstead’s body was discovered on October 29th, 2023. Since the moment he was born, he had been afflicted with several problems, including spina bifida. A decomposing body belonging to the adolescent was found on Sunday outside of the family’s previous residence, which was located on Bradford Drive in Headland.
Documents filed with the court indicate that the body of the adolescent was placed inside a cardboard box after being wrapped in plastic bags and blankets. The freezer was then used to store that box.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 11:37 a.m. concerning a deceased corpse in that area, according to Eric Blankenship, who is the sheriff of Henry County. When officers got to the location, they discovered a person that had expired inside of a freezer that was located in the backyard of the house.
As early as July or August, the sheriff stated that the victim could have passed away.
More than a month ago, according to Blankenship, the family went out of the house that they had rented and moved out of the house. A short time before, the owner had sold the property, and the new owners were in the process of cleaning up when they made the horrifying find.

They discovered the freezer in the backyard, and because it was too heavy to load up on the trailer to carry it, they decided to clear it out before they began to haul it away.
Upon opening it up and beginning to move items around, they noticed a hand and instantly dialed 911 to report the incident.
Later on that Sunday, the children of the victim were brought into custody AL.com stated.
There is evidence that the parents “recklessly and consciously disregarded the treatment of Logan, which resulted in his death,” as stated in the paperwork charged against them.
