ATLANTA — A family in metro Atlanta is very sad and wants your help to find the person who killed their loved one.

Athens police say 32-year-old Shantea Reeves died overnight Sunday when she was hit by a car racing on the side of I-20 eastbound just past Moreland Avenue.

“She was my guardian.” Della Reeves told 11Alive in an exclusive interview that her mother was like an angel who helped people.

Her daughter was Shantea. After her loss, all she wants is to find the person who killed her. Claire Reeves, 11, is the young mom’s niece. She thinks her mom should still be living and says she wishes she had been crushed.

Claire told her grandma as she sobbed, “I just wish I could’ve done more for her.”

Shantea was giving Mayfield ice cream a few days before the accident. Her family said she did the same thing on Saturday before she was hit that night. They said she didn’t call for a ride because she was trying to get home.

“It’s not fair how she went. Her body is broken up and not whole. She said, “It hurts so much.” The medical examiner’s office wouldn’t let her family see her body when they went there. Now they want to know who drove the black Mustang that hit her and left her on the road. Della said she was hit more than once after the first hit.

“Why don’t you stop?” She told him, “Pull over, check on that person, and make sure they’re safe.”

Police said they are still looking into what happened, but the black Mustang that hit Shantea left the scene of the crime, and no one has been booked yet.

There’s nothing good about taking someone’s life, but it’s especially bad when you don’t know them and don’t even bother to care or feel anything. She was nice, amazing, smart, and wise. I could tell she was God’s child in every way,” Claire said.

The angel of the family is gone. So, they need to know who killed her. “I need this for justice and for people to understand. I need people to help me find out who did this to her.” We need to know who did this. We want a fair trial. Dela said, “We want people to always remember her name.”

Her family is planning her funeral for the end of August while also getting Claire registered for school. You can give money here if you want to help.

The family said that the cops could only tell who Shantae was because of her tattoos and ID. Atlanta Police want to hear from anyone who knows or saw something early Sunday morning. Once more, police said the car that hit her was a black Mustang.
