GILFORD, New Hampshire —
During the evening of Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey reported that the Lakes Region was the location of an earthquake measuring 2.2 magnitude.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred with the epicenter located 2.8 miles to the northwest of Gilford.

The USGS reported that the earthquake had a depth of five kilometers. During the month of January, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.0 in Loudon.

Although most earthquakes in the Granite State are quite mild, there have been a few that have left a lasting impression. The state of New Hampshire was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 that was centered in southern Maine in 2012. The earthquake was felt as far away as Connecticut.

The region surrounding Laconia and Sanbornton was the epicenter of an earthquake that had a magnitude of at least 4.0 in the year 1982. In spite of the fact that the earthquake caused homes to shake and telephone poles to collapse, there were no reports of injuries or significant damage at the time.
