Patrick Plott is leaving his job as head coach of the Eagles football team after four straight playoff teams at Carroll.
In an interview with the Dothan Eagle on Friday afternoon, Plott said, “I have had several chances, so I am looking for more chances.”
Plott stated that the jobs were “assistant jobs at bigger schools,” but he didn’t say which schools they were. He said that nothing was set in stone yet, but it looked like he would get one of the jobs.
In addition, he said that he was quitting football right away, but he would stay as a teacher at Carroll until he was hired by one of the bigger schools. Peyton, his son, will also stay on the Carroll basketball team for now.
In four years as a coach at Class 5A Carroll, Plott went 16–27 overall. His teams played tough schedules, including 7A Dothan and Enterprise, 3A state semifinalist St. James, and teams in the very strong Class 5A, Region 2. He did have a 12-10 record in region play, though, with 3-2 records the last two years. Before Carroll came, the team had not won a region title or made the playoffs in the two years before he arrived.
Carroll has been to the playoffs four years in a row. The last time he did that was from 1986 to 1989, when he was coaching the Wiregrass Tigers and became a Hall of Fame coach.
Plott said, “I think we got the program going in the right direction.” “We didn’t get as much done as I had hoped, but I think we made progress on the program, and it will be better going forward.”

Plott has been a head coach for 13 years. On September 8, Carroll beat Rehobeth 27–14, giving him his 100th career win as a coach. In his career, he has a record of 102–54. The best moment was when he led Pickens County to the Class 1A state title in 2013.
Plott moved to Carroll after six years as an assistant coach at Auburn High School, where he also served as defense coordinator. He is from Carrollton in West Alabama.
Plott started teaching as an assistant in Carrollton, where he grew up. His job at Carroll was his 10th in high school, with six of those jobs being as a head coach.
From 2005 to 2007, he led Aliceville to a 26-9 record. All three of those teams made the playoffs, and two of them won games in the first round of the state playoffs. He became the head coach at Bullock County in 2009 after going to Pickens County in 2008 and going 11-2 there. That year, they made it to the state quarterfinals. He only coached the Hornets for one season before becoming an assistant coach at Demopolis. In that season, they went 2-8.
After one year, he went back to Pickens County as the head coach and had a 37-5 record over three years, including a 15-0 record and the Class 1A state win in 2013. During his time at Pickens County, he also led the basketball team to a state win in 2012.
In 2014, he became the head football coach at Greenville and led the Class 5A Tigers to a 10-3 record and the state semifinals. He then became an assistant coach at Auburn High School and then came to Carroll.
