Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, is issuing a recall for nearly 200,000 cars in the United States, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall is prompted by a “software instability” issue that hinders the display of the rearview camera image.

The affected vehicles are specified as certain 2023 Model S, X, and Y equipped with full self-driving 4.0, Tesla’s autonomous software system.

The recall announcement is available on the NHTSA website. Tesla shares exhibited a slight increase in premarket trading on Friday.

Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, is issuing a recall for nearly 200,000 cars in the United States, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has indicated that the estimated count of vehicles impacted by the recall is 199,575.

The recall, identified by Tesla as SB-24-00-002, can be addressed by customers with inquiries through the company’s customer services.

Tesla has proactively initiated an over-the-air software update at no cost to owners to rectify the identified issue, as confirmed by the NHTSA. Owners are scheduled to receive recall notifications by mail starting March 22.

A recall occurs when a car manufacturer identifies a potential safety concern with a vehicle.

Generally, automakers provide complimentary repairs to address these issues, and customers are notified through correspondence such as letters or other forms of customer communication.

Tesla’s Consecutive 2 Million Vehicle Recalls

Tesla’s most recent recall comes on the heels of a previous one last month, where the automaker recalled 2 million Tesla vehicles due to a faulty system designed to ensure driver attention while utilizing the Autopilot feature.

This action was prompted by a series of fatal accidents involving Tesla’s Autopilot software, which were under investigation by the NHTSA.

In response to disappointing guidance, Tesla shares closed down by 12% on Wednesday.

Concurrently, Tesla has been aggressively reducing the prices of its vehicles, implementing cuts of up to 8.1% in Europe.

This is part of a broader trend of price reductions initiated last year, as Tesla strives to maintain its leadership position in the electric vehicle market.

However, Tesla’s dominance faces challenges, particularly from BYD, the Chinese electric car manufacturing giant.
