Police are investigating a murder after new homeowners found human body parts in their freezer.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office officers were called to the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue on January 14 because new owners were cleaning out their home and found dead bodies.

As of January 12, 2024, the sheriff’s office said that an autopsy had been done and “confirmed the human remains found at the address on Pinyon Avenue are a human head and human hands.”

KREX-TV says that the new owners posted on social media on the day of the finding that neighbors were welcome to come get “free stuff” that the previous renters had left behind. It is said that someone looked through a big freezer and found the body parts in a plastic bag under some meat.

The sheriff’s office stated, “We hope to positively identify the victim while remaining respectful of the victim and the victim’s family.”
