Thursday, officials said that the two people who died in a head-on crash in Stanislaus County were from the Bay Area.
The accident took place on December 20 at 5:44 p.m. on Highway 132, just west of Gates Road.
The coroner for Stanislaus County says that the driver who died in the accident was 26-year-old Emmanuel Villa-Angel from San Jose. Twenty-five-year-old Juan Torres Vazquez, who was riding with him, was also killed.
On Highway 132, Villa-Angel was driving an Infinity sedan going east when, according to the California Highway Patrol, he drove into the westbound lane and hit a Chevrolet Suburban head-on. The car caught fire.
The CHP said that both people died at the scene.
The Suburban hurt two people badly enough that they had to be taken to the hospital. As of Thursday, there was no new information about their health.
