Warm Weekend Gives Way to Colder Week: Snow Showers, Breezy Winds, and Gradual Warmup Expected

Following a near-record warm weekend, temperatures will fall throughout the week. By midweek, it will feel more like December, thanks to colder air moving in from the north behind a cold front Tuesday night.

Tonight’s skies will remain partly to mainly cloudy. Winds will stay breezy through the evening before decreasing to 10 to 20 mph out of the northwest later. Tonight will be slightly cooler, with lows in the 20s.

Tomorrow will be cool again, with breezes from the northwest. The greatest winds will be across the western and northern regions of the region. While it will be chilly, it will not be very frigid for this time of year. High temperatures will vary from the mid-30s in the north to the mid-40s in the south.

There is a chance of light snow or flurries. Chances are higher in the state’s north and south central regions. However, anyone may get some light, measurable snowfall tomorrow afternoon and evening. Some of these snow showers may be heavy for a brief period, reducing visibility on roads.

Just something to think about if you’re out driving. Another cold front will move south Tuesday night. Tuesday night’s lows will be in the tens to about twenty degrees. This front will bring in cooler air, but the majority of the harsh arctic air will bypass us and remain to our northeast.

Wednesday promises some additional sunlight and a wide range of high temperatures. High temperatures will vary from the high tens in the northeast to the mid-forties in the southwest.

The Tri-Cities should expect highs in the low to mid-30s. Thursday and Friday seem to be more of the same, albeit the severely cold air to the northeast will shift eastward. Thursday’s highs will vary from the low 20s northeast to around 40° west. Friday’s highs will generally be in the 30s, with a few 20s possible in the Northeast.

There’s a risk of light rain and/or snow. Currently, the biggest probability is over Southeast Nebraska, as the majority of this system stays in the southeast.

Temperatures will rise throughout the weekend and into early next week. Saturday’s high temperatures will range from the mid-30s in the northeast to the lower 50s in the southwest.

Sunday and Monday will be better in the evenings. On Sunday, high temperatures will vary from the mid-40s northeast to the mid-50s southwest. Monday’s highs will be in the mid-40s in the north and mid-50s in the south.
