Hook, line, and sinker— Officials announced the first day of trout season in 2025, and licenses and permits are now available throughout the Commonwealth.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) stated that the first day of trout season will be on Saturday, April 25. Future trout stocking dates will be announced in the coming months.
Beginning Sunday, December 1, licenses, permits, and vouchers are available for purchase through the HuntFishPA online portal on the PFBC website, on your smartphone via the FishBoatPA mobile app, or by visiting one of over 700 retail license-issuing agents. They will be valid for thirteen months, from December 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025.
Customers can purchase gift vouchers as the holidays approach, and they can even choose for a multi-year license. In addition to the standard annual license and permit, three, five, and ten-year options are offered.
“As the busy winter and holiday seasons begin, now is the best time to get a jump on the fishing opportunities that are available now and in the coming spring,” said Tim Schaeffer, PFBC Executive Director. ”
Whether you purchase a fishing license for yourself or a voucher to give as a gift to family and friends, you are unlocking the opportunity to create lifelong experiences on the sea.
Obtaining your license now ensures that you can take advantage of every fishing season for the remainder of this year and next year.
Pennsylvania is one of the best fishing states in the country, offering something for everyone. Those prospects are made possible by the investment of fishing license funds, and we appreciate your contribution to that circle of success.”
As a reminder, Pennsylvania rules have changed, and fisherman are no longer allowed to display their licenses outside of their clothing, which are typically pinned to hats and ball caps. If you are stopped by rangers or law police, you will be able to present them with a digital license saved to your phone.
