A Memphis mother was arrested after allegedly hitting her son with a screwdriver after picking him up from school. Miriam Castillo, 44, is accused of felony aggravated child abuse and misdemeanor domestic assault, according to Shelby County court records in Tennessee. Her kid was seen running and yelling “She is trying to kill me” on Tuesday afternoon, according to witnesses.

According to an affidavit of complaint received by Law&Crime, one witness reported to police that the victim was “assaulted by his mother.” The victim, whose age was not specified in the affidavit, said that his mother “was driving recklessly [ly] after she picked him up from school.”

According to the complaint, Castillo’s son reported to police that his mother “attempted to put him out of the moving vehicle while on the way to pick up his sister.” At that time, the youngster called his father, who “advised for him to take [Castillo’s] keys once the vehicle was stopped.”

When he attempted to do so, Castillo “bit[ed] him on his right hand and left elbow.” She then “took an unknown screwdriver and stabbed him in the left leg, breaking the skin,” according to the affidavit. The youngster then got out of the car and began running until he was seen by a witness and police were called.

The youngster was treated for minor injuries, according to the affidavit.

Officers found Castillo and said that they “smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person.” She admitted to drinking but did not know how many drinks she had.

“Officers were unable to get a statement from suspect Miriam Castillo about the incident due to her being under the influence,” according to the declaration.

Following the event, both the victim and his sister were released into their father’s custody, according to authorities.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Castillo is being detained in jail on a $40,000 bond. Her court date is planned for Friday.
