According to a criminal complaint filed by federal prosecutors, the son of Ryan Routh, the man accused in an alleged failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has been arrested on accusations related to child sex abuse.
The alleged would-be assassin’s son, Oran Routh, is charged with receiving and possessing child pornography, according to the complaint obtained by PEOPLE.
According to the complaint, detectives discovered “hundreds” of files containing child sexual assault evidence at Oran’s residence in Guilford County, North Carolina, on Saturday, September 21. According to the lawsuit, federal officials searched Oran’s residence “in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation.”
Oran’s father, Ryan, 58, was detained the weekend before for allegedly attempting to assassinate Trump, 78, while he was playing golf at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, the Secret Service claimed.
A Secret Service agent saw Ryan’s gun protruding out of a bush about 500 yards away from Trump and shot him, according to the Secret Service. According to the Secret Service, the accused assassin was unable to fire a cartridge and fled the scene after getting shot himself. He was later apprehended on a highway in a neighboring county.
The alleged child sex abuse material was discovered on a Samsung Galaxy Note device in the Routh son’s bedroom, as well as another Samsung Galaxy Note device in his possession at the time of the search, according to the complaint.
“A review of the SD card located in Device-1 revealed that it contained hundreds of child pornography files,” federal prosecutors said in their complaint. “These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina.”
Oran is set to appear before a judge on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.
It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney.
