Authorities in California have apprehended a woman who was first believed to have been the victim of a house invasion that resulted in the death of her lover, and she has been charged with his murder.

Pleasanton police said they arrested Kennedy Stith, 27, on Sept. 12 as part of an investigation into the death of her partner, Edevion White, 32, who was discovered dead at the 5700 block of Owens Drive on May 1, 2023.

In a statement, authorities said the 27-year-old originally lied about her boyfriend’s death, claiming two men in ski masks were to blame. She claimed the couple broke into their apartment and murdered him, according to Foxnews.

“However, through a year-long investigation, Pleasanton detectives determined this claim was untrue,” the officers stated. On Friday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged her with murder. Stith is accused of fatally stabbing White in the chest at their residence on Owens and Rosewood Drive, according to reports.

Pleasanton police arrested Stith on suspicion of murder on Friday, accusing her of fabricating the tale about the house invasion.

Pleasanton police described Stith as “manipulative, abusive, and controlling,” KTVU said. According to the story, Stith allegedly compelled her boyfriend to sell narcotics to pay their bills.

“The City of Pleasanton extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Edevion White, and we are working closely with them during this challenging period,” stated a police officer. “We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this investigation, and we remain committed to ensuring the safety of our community.”
