A Kentucky mother accused of killing her two children intends to utilize an insanity defense.
A motion filed in Bullitt Circuit Court on Wednesday, Sept. 11, stated that Tiffanie Lucas’ defense attorney intends to “assert a defense of insanity at the time of the alleged offense.”
Lucas is suspected of killing her two sons, Maurice Baker Jr., 6, and Jayden Howard, 9, on November 8, 2023.
According to the request acquired by PEOPLE, the defense also seeks “to introduce at trial expert evidence relating to a mental disease, mental defect, or other mental condition bearing in the issue of guilt and punishment.”
The two youngsters were discovered in a bedroom of their Shepherdsville home. They were fatally shot. At a November 2023 hearing, a detective testified that when authorities arrived at the scene, Lucas stepped out of her house and slumped on her neighbor’s driveway.
According to PEOPLE Lucas stated that the incident “was an accident” after being questioned by police.
