In the early hours of Saturday, the Illinois State Police (ISP) reported that a five-vehicle collision, which included a lorry, resulted in the death of one individual and the injury of another in the southern suburbs.
The collision occurred in Lansing on the southbound ramp of Interstate 94 to Interstate 80 eastbound shortly before 2:00 a.m., according to the police. One individual was declared deceased upon the arrival of ISP personnel at the location. An additional individual was transported to a nearby hospital due to injuries.
The identity of the victims was not immediately disclosed by the ISP, and the circumstances that precipitated the accident were not immediately apparent. The ramp was temporarily closed while officers conducted an investigation; however, it was reopened shortly before 9:00 a.m. ISP stated that the investigation is currently underway and declined to furnish any additional information in the interim.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences for the family of the deceased victim. Our condolences are with the injured victims and their loved ones. We aspire to their complete recovery.
Tractor-trailers were involved in approximately 11,800 collisions, of which 80 were fatal, according to recent data from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Statistically, collisions involving conventional passenger vehicles have a lower fatality rate than those involving big rig incidents involving large trucks.
The initial step in identifying potential faults for these accidents, which could involve multiple parties, is to determine the cause.

- Infractions of regulations governing commercial transportation
- Improper loading or securing of cargo
