Authorities have confirmed the deaths of many persons in separate car accidents on Texas roadways, with young people being particularly affected. According to FOX San Antonio, Vincent Onofre and Mercadez Silva Rivera, both 19, were killed in a rollover incident after a white Cadillac Escalade lost control and flipped over near the intersection of Applewhite Road and South Zarzamora early last Saturday.
Around 2:20 a.m., officials arrived at the site and discovered that both victims had been thrown from the SUV. Sadly, they were pronounced deceased at the scene, while two other people involved in the collision were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Another devastating disaster occurred earlier when a van swerved off the road and crashed on US-287 in Alvord, according to a PEOPLE news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The second catastrophe, involving a party going from Florida to New Mexico, killed five people and injured many others. Diony Antoine (46), JN Irard Vixamar (42), and Ledene Pierre-Louis (36), all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, were among those killed. Later that evening, 28-year-old Geneve Louis died from her injuries at Medical City Denton, and Junior Louis, 35, died the next Friday.
Patrick Dorcant, a relative of one of the fatalities, told KTVT, “He’s family-oriented and hardworking.” He came to the United States to obtain an education.” Tiffany Cuyler, who knew most of the van’s passengers, remembers Geneve Louis as “a sweet soul” who had been in the United States for just over three months.
“So I know these people yearn to get here for a better life,” Cuyler said. Other passengers were badly hurt in the crash, with two men transported to Fort Worth hospitals and another hospitalized with a minor injury. According to PEOPLE, the DPS is currently investigating the crash.
These tragedies highlight the hazardous nature of life on the road, as well as the impact such accidents have on families and communities.
KTVT film revealed the aftermath of the crash site, including the wrecked white van, emphasizing the emotional toll felt by those close to the fatalities. “The emotion is very high,” Dorcant stated, as quoted by Hoodline.
