A horrible situation transpired Tuesday night when a man and woman were discovered dead in a Hialeah apartment after committing murder-suicide. A small boy was left alone inside the unit for several days.

Around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Hialeah police announced that they were investigating a “domestic-related incident” that resulted in the deaths of Clifford Renard Murray III, 28, and Rosemary Gutierrez, 27, inside an apartment complex located at 605 W. 68th St.

The couple had been living together and were the parents of a 3-year-old son, who was found uninjured but thirsty and unclean. Murray is believed to have shot and killed Gutierrez before turning the gun on himself over the weekend.

According to Hialeah Police Lieutenant Eddie Rodriguez, Gutierrez’s sister went to the couple’s apartment a few hours earlier, at 6 p.m., after not hearing from her since Saturday morning.

When she came, she knocked on the door, but nobody answered. She did, however, hear her 3-year-old nephew sobbing inside the flat, according to Rodriguez, the police spokesperson.

She contacted 911 since she couldn’t open the door on her own. Police and fire rescue arrived at the same time, and firemen broke down the door to discover a horrifying scene, according to Rodriguez.

Firefighters transported the boy to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where Rodriguez explained that he needed to be fed and watered as a precaution.

“I hope he’ll never have to remember what he saw,” Rodriguez said. According to Rodriguez, the toddler remained in the Florida Department of Children and Families’ custody as of Wednesday morning.

Eduardo Fernandez, who has lived next to the couple for six years, said Wednesday that the sound of gunfire woke him up at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

“I heard the gunshots but didn’t know what they were. I stepped up to the window, but I didn’t see any movement or hear any noise,” Fernandez told the Herald in Spanish.

According to Rodriguez, several neighbors informed police they heard gunfire Friday night but did not report it. They also stated that they didn’t hear the child cry.

Fernandez stated that there was never an issue with the pair.

“It was all normal,” he stated. “They were all very polite, and so was the little boy.” He [Clifford] did not speak Spanish, but I would occasionally come over to assist them in cleaning the air conditioner.

Fernandez expressed his primary concern for their three-year-old son.

“The thing that worries me is the child,” he explained. “He was in an apartment with his parents dead for three days.”

Rodriguez added: “This is a horrible occurrence. What we are doing now is due diligence, and we hope that this child will never remember this day.
