CHARLOTTE, N.C.- A guy who previously served six years in jail for murder is now being held in Mecklenburg County Jail on charges of another murder.

Officers arrested Sam Roary, 53, on Sunday and charged him with first-degree murder. Officers received a call from a lady at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday reporting that she was bleeding in the toilet at the QuikTrip on North Graham Street and I-85.

Glandina Dixon was discovered deceased a short time later. Investigators claim security footage shows Roary following her into the business before returning to his truck and collecting a hammer.

According to investigators, Roary spent 40 seconds in the women’s restroom, where he allegedly beat Dixon to death.

According to court documents, Roary pled guilty to second-degree murder in 1989 and served six years of his 15-year sentence.

“Anyone who was convicted before 1994 had the opportunity, even for murder, to be out within 15 years,” stated QCN Chief Legal Analyst Khalif Rhodes.

“There’s only a couple left that people that were charged and convicted with murder before 1994 have done their whole time and they can get released.”

Roary is being jailed under a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is still waiting.
