A dog attacked a youngster in the University City Division, gravely injuring him. The incident occurred about 8:51 p.m. on Monday, August 19, in the 5400 block of Cameron Commons Parkway. Following the incident, officers from the CMPD University City Division and MEDIC went to the location.
The first inquiry revealed that three dogs from the victim’s family were freed from the garage while a group of youngsters were playing in the front yard, resulting in the following assault.
The third dog allegedly began biting and dragging the kid down the driveway after two of the dogs knocked the youngster to the ground in what was characterized as playful activity. Adults intervened to stop the assault, with two people shooting firearms to terrify the dog and cause it to retreat.
MEDIC transferred the wounded youngster to Atrium Health Main due to critical injuries. Following the event, the dog’s owner submitted it to CMPD’s Animal Care and Control, where it will undergo a 10-day rabies quarantine before being destroyed.
As the investigation proceeds, CMPD recommends parents and guardians keep a close check on their children near dogs.
The CMPD’s Public Affairs office will release further information about this case as it develops. For more information on this occurrence, please see report number 20240819-2019-00.
