A Mississippi aircraft company has announced a $43.8 million expansion, which would create 63 new employment by the end of 2025.

Aurora Flight Sciences, a subsidiary of Boeing, is expanding operations in Columbus, Mississippi. The expansion comprises a 50,000-square-foot extension to its existing aerosystems manufacturing plant, as well as the renovation of 40,000 square feet of space. The firm is also improving its equipment, machining skills, and automated fiber installation technologies.

The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is funding the expansion under the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, while AccelerateMS and Lowndes County are also contributing.

Aurora Flight Sciences, which established its Columbus site in 2005, focuses on developing, constructing, and flying sophisticated aircraft and supporting technologies for commercial and defense purposes.

Governor Tate Reeves hailed the development, saying, “This investment by Aurora Flight Sciences demonstrates that Mississippi is an excellent location for cutting-edge aerospace manufacturing.” The Golden Triangle Region is a hotbed for aerospace expertise, and its talented pipeline of experienced professionals guarantees that firms like Aurora Flight Sciences stay ahead of the competition.”

Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork reiterated this attitude, highlighting the state’s robust economic development and the significance of aerospace work in Mississippi. “MDA is proud to support Aurora Flight Sciences as it continues to be an integral component of Lowndes County’s economic landscape,” Cork told the crowd.

Aurora Flight Sciences Vice President of Manufacturing Luke Colville thanked the community for its support, adding, “Since moving to Mississippi in 2005, our manufacturing business has grown exponentially.” This victory would not have been achieved without the hard work and devotion of Aurora’s Columbus team members.

Golden Triangle Development LINK Chief Executive Officer Joe Max Higgins emphasized Aurora’s commitment to the region, saying, “This is Aurora’s third expansion since locating in the Golden Triangle.” Their dedication to growing the aerospace industry at GTRA is much appreciated.”
