TUCSON, Ariz. – On Tuesday, August 20, a Tucson Police K-9 was injured at the site of an officer-involved gunshot between Sixth and Irvington in Tucson.
The Tucson Police Department said the incident began at 5:30 p.m. when a lady contacted 911 from Rudy Garcia Park. She said a guy with a knife was following her and her son.
While authorities were speaking with the victim, the suspect was seen at the Laos Transit Center, which is less than a half mile from the park.

The unidentified offender fled cops before being apprehended between South Sixth and Irvington. The TPD stated that this is when the K-9 was deployed. The culprit reportedly harmed the K-9, who was sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The guy fled again, but cops caught up with him between West Oklahoma Street and South Seventh Avenue.
The TPD stated that police attempted to persuade the individual to surrender, but he refused, so they employed less-lethal tactics.
It didn’t work, so the police had to track down the man. During the tussle, the officer shot his handgun on the ground. The TPD stated that no one was hurt in the shooting.
The suspect was arrested and transferred to a hospital with minor injuries. According to the TPD, a couple of officers sustained minor injuries but nothing major.

The TPD reports that no community members were wounded.
The Pima Critical Incident Team will conduct the criminal inquiry. The Marana Police Department will lead the inquiry, with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department taking a supporting role. The TPD will conduct a second investigation to ensure that officers followed department procedures.
