A Charlotte man is facing insurance fraud charges following an incident involving an abandoned vending machine.
Bradon Jones, an Ayrsley resident, is accused of making insurance claims for an abandoned vending machine on his property through Liberty Mutual and its affiliate, Ohio Security Insurance Company, using his business name.
The incident occurred on June 26, and Jones was arrested on July 16. He was accused of obtaining property under false pretenses and four charges of insurance fraud. Jones was eventually freed from jail after paying a $5,000 bail.

According to officials, Jones did not own the vending machine and did not have the necessary permission to operate it. In addition, another insurance claim for the equipment was made under the prior policy.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” stated NCDOI Commissioner Mike Causey. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud.”
