CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A man followed a woman inside a north Charlotte QuikTrip gas station and killed her with a hammer, according to authorities.

The vicious assault occurred late Saturday night at the QuikTrip on Trailer Drive, which is located just off North Graham Street and Interstate 85. Glandina Dixon, 47, allegedly entered the store before using the restroom. Sam Roary, 53, allegedly followed Dixon into the business and assaulted her with a hammer in the bathroom, according to police.

Dixon enters the store, as seen on surveillance video. You then notice a man named Roary following her inside. A few moments later, the man returned to his truck, grabbing a hammer. Surveillance footage shows the man following Dixon into the women’s bathroom, where she was discovered dead.

Around 11:15 p.m. on August 17, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police received a 911 call from someone inside one of the toilet stalls. The witness reported hearing a noise and leaving the staff. She discovered Dixon bleeding from the back of her skull, with blood on the floor. Dixon was declared dead at the scene by medics.

“That’s actually kind of scary,” one consumer stated. “Seeing that people can do that and there are those types of people.” According to security footage, Roary was only in the bathroom for around 40 seconds before leaving the store, getting into his truck, and driving away. Detectives confirmed that Roary and Dixon had known each other. It’s still unknown what caused the strike. Roary has been arrested and charged with murder.

Dixon’s family is distraught and wants to know why this occurred. On Tuesday, WCNC Charlotte spoke with Dixon’s family, but they denied an interview, citing a lack of readiness.

Anyone with information on this crime can call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Witnesses can also contact 704-432-TIPS to speak with homicide detectives.
