A Michigan man facing a trespassing charge could spend more than a year in prison after telling a judge to “kiss my a–.”
This is the second time Judge J. Cedric Simpson has appeared in a viral court video. In May, Simpson presided over a hearing for a man accused of driving with a suspended license who called into court electronically while driving.
The most recent incident, which was again live-streamed, occurred during a hearing for Darrell Lester Jarrell, who, according to jail records, is accused of trespassing in Washtenaw County, Michigan.
The footage, obtained by Fox 2, shows Jarrell in court with his counsel, with Simpson presiding. According to media reports, Jarrell’s outburst began when the judge was establishing a new court date. “I’m tired of this state, and I’m ready to leave as soon as possible,” he stated before shouting at the court.
Jarrell then yelled, “F— you,” and Simpson responded by holding him in contempt, which carries a possible 93-day jail sentence. The swearing continued, and Simpson issued six contempt of court rulings totaling 558 days.
According to jail records, Jarrell is now in custody. It is unclear whether he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of trespassing. During the exchange between Jarrell and Simpson, the court proceeded to the next hearing, which was for a man who watched the entire episode via Zoom.
The man remained perplexed throughout the exchange, his mouth wide open as Jarrell received more than a year in prison for his outburst.
As the second man’s hearing was about to begin, he and Simpson began to chuckle in apparent amazement.
“How are you doing, your honor?” Jenkins asked Simpson, who replied that he was doing “great.”
