According to the Dallas Police Department, a 20-year-old woman died after being hit by a squad car on Monday.
According to DPD, the officer was driving east on Elam Road in a marked squad car, responding to a report without using their lights or sirens. DPD alleges a woman, subsequently identified as Aresly Jaramillo, was standing in the median near the intersection of Elam Road and Cedarcliff Drive.
Police said she “ran in front of two vehicles trying to turn left onto Cedarcliff Drive, and into the far-left lane where the officer was driving” before being struck.
“It’s not fair…it’s not fair…” Tavita Jasso, Jaramillo’s mother, sobbed to WFAA.
“My little girl was only twenty.”
Jasso stated that she was at home with her daughter Monday night. She stated she decided to go for a walk in the neighboring park and kissed her daughter farewell.

“But never would I thought that was going to be the last hug and kiss I received from her,” she said with sorrow.
Jasso told WFAA she walked to the park unaware that her daughter had decided to follow her.
“So I wouldn’t be alone,” she wept.
“I was already in the park in the baseball field when I heard the accident, but I never thought it was my daughter.”
According to DPD, the officer stopped and gave Jaramillo first aid after hitting her, but she died later in the hospital.
Jasso told WFAA that she had a lot of questions and wanted more details.
“If there any witnesses, if anybody saw all this, please get a hold of us, I need to know what happened,” she began to sob.
The DPD says the inquiry is still ongoing.
