A Maryland judge sentenced a woman to 61 years in jail for the murder and dismemberment of her boyfriend, according to prosecutors.
After an eight-day trial, a St. Mary’s County jury convicted Michelina Desiree Goodwin, 46, of second-degree murder, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, and illegal disposal of a body in the death of James Volodimir Nalborczyk, 50. State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling stated that the judge issued the maximum punishment allowed.
“The defendant’s heinous act of shooting the victim in the back pales in comparison to the gruesome details surrounding the murder.” “After killing the victim, the defendant dismembered him and scattered his remains throughout our county and a neighboring county,” Sterling said in a statement.
Nalborczyk’s family reported him missing to Maryland State Police on December 21, 2022. Police determined that he had not been seen or heard from in ten days. According to authorities, further inquiry revealed that his disappearance was the result of foul play.

Troopers uncovered body parts around St. Mary’s County and neighboring Charles County. Police charged Goodwin with murder. Larry Murphy, 42, was arrested in mid-January 2023 for murder and accessory after the fact. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit acquired by Southern Maryland News, Goodwin informed Nalborczyk’s family that she last saw him in early December 2022, when she was about to break up with him before he drove off to Virginia in a business vehicle. However, she later told police that she and Nalborczyk were arguing when she pointed a gun at him, according to the affidavit. It exploded and struck him in the back, killing him.
She then reportedly enlisted Murphy’s assistance in dissecting Nalborczyk’s body and disposing of the components. Murphy denied involvement. He was eventually charged with accessory after the fact and sentenced to one year in jail after a jury found him guilty last year, according to records.

“I hope that with the outcome of today’s sentencing hearing, the victim’s family can finally find peace, justice, healing, and closure after the horrifying homicide of their beloved family member.
According to his obituary, Nalborczyk worked as an HVAC mechanic for many years.
“Over the last few years, Jimmy has taken odd jobs to support those around him and is known by many who work at the St. Mary’s farmer’s market. He never stopped working or attempting to help others. “Jimmy will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him,” the obituary read.
