San Patricio Deputies Injured in Shooting After Suspect Attacks With Baton: Investigation Underway

MATHIS, Texas – Two deputies from San Patricio County were involved in a violent altercation with a suspect that took place at a neighborhood store in Mathis.

It was after deputies were summoned to aid in the hunt for a man who was causing disturbances at a store that the incident started. After the man had left, the store clerk shut the doors and then called the Mathis Police Department to report the incident.

Within a short time, a different company reported a circumstance that was very similar to the one that had occurred earlier. When deputies arrived, they confronted the suspect, which resulted in a physical conflict between the two parties.

During the battle, the suspect was able to get his hands on one of the batons that were being used by the deputies and then proceeded to attack them. He choked one of the officers, which prompted the other officer to shoot the officer who had been choked. The subject continued to resist even after being shot multiple times.

An official from the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office made the following statement: “We are grateful for Mathis Police Department as well as a local citizen who came running to assist in taking the suspect into custody.”

In addition to being taken to a local hospital, the suspect is still being held in custody with criminal charges still pending against him. Both deputies were taken to the hospital, and it has been reported that they are doing well.

It has been reported by the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office that the Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
