BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – A 3-year-old Minnesota kid was attacked by two pit bulls last week and is not expected to live, according to his family.

Covil Allen’s parents are preparing him to be an organ donor, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported on Friday. An online campaign is seeking donations to assist Covil’s parents with expenses incurred as a result of the July 19 attack in their backyard.

According to a search warrant acquired by WCCO-TV, Covil’s family was at a Brooklyn Park home where pets were for sale. Police said they assumed the child’s parents were there to purchase a puppy.

When the canines began to attack Covil, adults “started to defend the 3-year-old by using hammers and pick axes to get the dogs off,” according to the warrant.

authorities officers arrived and discovered the dogs attacking the child, so they shot both animals, according to authorities. One dog was murdered, while the other was transported to a veterinary hospital and euthanized.

According to the fundraising post, Covil’s mother was also bitten on the leg and underwent numerous surgeries.

Police said the investigation into Covil’s attack is ongoing, as is another dog bite incident on Tuesday when a 7-year-old girl was attacked by a loose dog. She was not seriously wounded. Officers killed the dog after it attempted to attack a boy, according to ABC News.

Brooklyn Park police Inspector Elliot Faust stated that wider discussions concerning dog attacks are currently taking place with city leaders and elected authorities.
