A boat collision on the Tickfaw River killed two persons and injured six others, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported Sunday.
The collision between two boats was reported to LDWF agents at about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. The crash occurred in the Tickfaw River near Kings Point, according to a news release from the department.
LDWF agents arrived on the scene and discovered a capsized 25-foot Sea Fox boat and a severely damaged 25-foot pontoon boat.
According to the news release, an LDWF agent and another person on the site dived into the water and rescued a 27-year-old woman who was trapped under the capsized boat. The woman was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The body of the 36-year-old man piloting the pontoon boat was found from the river at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the release. According to the announcement, three persons on each boat were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening.
The cause of the collision is still unknown. The Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the formal cause of death for the two victims, and their identities will be published later, according to the agency.
There were six individuals on the Sea Fox and seven on the pontoon boat at the time of the collision. The department reported that no one was wearing a personal flotation device when the boats crashed.
The LDWF Enforcement Division is in charge of the investigation into the crash.
