NORTH TEXAS — The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for the counties of Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton, as well as our counties to the north and west, on Monday evening. The advisory was in effect until 8 o’clock that evening.

This week, high pressure at a mid-to-upper level will align and expand over the southwest, as well as the central and southern plains. This will cause the heat to last longer and bring temperatures that are higher than average for large portions of the population.

This high pressure will once again move westward by the weekend, which will allow for a greater flow of northerly air on the eastern perimeter. This will bring with it some cooler air, a weak front, and possibly some small possibilities of precipitation.

This week is going to be a little bit more dusty. It is expected that further dust from the Sahara Desert will arrive in Texas this week after traveling several thousand kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean.

Over the past few weeks, dust from the Sahara has been helping to prevent tropical growth in the Atlantic. However, there are now larger gaps in the dust and shear, which means that fresh tropical waves may be able to begin developing in the weeks to come.

East of the Lesser Antilles is where we are keeping an eye on the first wave forming. By the weekend, the most recent developments in the model group industry will continue to carry this wave to Providenciales, Cuba, and finally to the vicinity of Florida.
