A surprising employer has just announced the elimination of 100 jobs in Maryland, as revealed by new WARN statistics.
A Michigan food supplier named SpartanNash has announced plans to close a legacy distribution center in Prince George’s County. The facility was bought by the company in a $1.3 billion merger over ten years ago. Now, as of September 30, the Grand Rapids-based company, which has a retail and wholesale arm, intends to close its Landover plant.
Their notification to the Maryland Department of Labor on worker adjustments and retraining states that 141 individuals will be affected by the layoffs.
A corporate spokeswoman stated, “As part of our continuous improvement, we regularly evaluate our supply chain network to identify ways to operate more efficiently and effectively.”
Thanks to the adjustments we’ve made to our processes, we’re in a better position to expand our business and deliver better customer service.
Assuring a seamless transition for our Associates and customers is our top priority. The company’s other East Coast distribution hubs are taking over the tasks that were formerly handled in Landover, according to the spokeswoman.
In cases where it is feasible and wanted, it is providing affected staff places at its other facilities, but discussions over this are still underway (Biz Journals).

- Little WillScot Mobile. On July 5th, 33 jobs were terminated.
- Terminated 498 positions at Transdev, Inc. on June 30.
- Sixth of June saw 408 layoffs at First Transit, Inc.
- We are Sodexo. On June 30th, 56 jobs were eliminated.
