ATHENS, Ala. – Two law enforcement agencies, the Athens Police Department and the New York Sheriff’s Office, worked together to find and apprehend a guy who is accused of sexually assaulting a girl who was 16 years old.
The Athens Police Department stated on May 9 that they had received a report of a girl who had been sexually assaulted prior to the incident.
Officers identified Oscar Ariel Duarte Rodriguez, who is 36 years old, as the person they believe committed the assault.
Detective Melissa Meadows of the Atlanta Police Department discovered that Rodriguez had escaped to Putman County, New York, on June 27. Meadows requested assistance from the Putman County Sheriff’s Office to successfully locate Rodriguez.
Putman County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate and apprehend him once they found him. It was on July 16 that the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office made the necessary arrangements to have Rodriguez brought back to Alabama.
After being taken into custody, he was charged with one count of rape in the first degree. An Aniah’s Law hearing is scheduled to take place, and he is now being held without bond in the Limestone County Jail.
