An unexpected employer is now laying off workers in Virginia, according to new WARN data.
It’s worth noting that the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires a business with more than 100 full-time employees to send a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more people at a single location.
BAE Systems is the latest employer to announce imminent layoffs in Virginia.
BAE Systems is a British multinational aerospace, defense, and information security business headquartered in London, England.
In 2017, it was Britain’s largest manufacturer.
It is also Europe’s largest defense contractor and the world’s seventh-largest, according to applicable 2021 revenues.
Its North American subsidiary has locations across the country.
The aerospace manufacturer has filed a notice with the Virginia Employment Commission, informing that 56 employees at its McLean location will be laid off on September 14.
However, BAE Systems is not the only corporation to have laid off people in Virginia this year.
The following is a list of other firms that have recently slashed jobs or have announced imminent layoffs in Virginia this year:
- RMC events. By August 12, 280 jobs will have been terminated.
- GEO Secure Services, LLC-Lawrenceville Correctional Center. There will be 235 job cutbacks by July 31.
- Iron mountain. On June 28, there were 64 job cutbacks.
- Sodexo. There were 119 job layoffs on May 31.
- UPS. There were 153 job layoffs on June 3.
