A woman in Texas paid two guys $100 to steal a man’s iPhone at gunpoint because it had “proof of her infidelities,” according to police.
The situation was brought to light on June 25. According to a news release, Cameron County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2300 block of Magdalena Avenue in Brownsville to investigate an aggravated robbery. Brownsville is located near the US-Mexico border and the Gulf of Mexico.
When deputies arrived, they discovered that two individuals had held a man at gunpoint and stolen his cell phone. One of the men held a gun to the victim’s head while demanding the phone, then fired a bullet toward the ground to scare him before both suspects left with the phone, according to officials.
Authorities swiftly recognized the culprits as Juan Carlos Macias, who was caught the same day, and Brian Rodriguez, who was apprehended two days later. Details on who fired the gun and what part each suspect had in the heist were not revealed.
Rodriguez and Macias were booked into Cameron County Jail. Rodriguez is charged with aggravated robbery and possession of a prohibited drug. His bond amount was set at $103,000. Macias is charged with aggravated robbery and is being jailed on a $50,000 bail.
Two days after the arrest, officials said investigators discovered the conspiracy, who was allegedly behind it, and why it occurred.
Angelica Reyes, 47, allegedly agreed to give Rodriguez $100 for the smartphone, which held “proof of her infidelities,” according to the news release.
Authorities said Rodriguez’s 21-year-old sister Jade Urenda became part of the plan after her brother and Macias were jailed. She allegedly called Reyes to demand the $100 he owed Rodriguez, and Reyes eventually paid Urenda, according to investigators.

Authorities apprehended both women. According to Lawandcrime, they are charged with aggravated robbery and involvement in organized crime. Reyes was being held at the Cameron County Jail. Online jail records did not have any information about Urenda’s current status.
