Chicago, IL – There have been 17 tornadoes that have devastated northern Illinois and northwest Indiana over the past two days, according to the National Weather Service of the United States. The storms that occurred yesterday night led to the confirmation of four new tornadoes.
A tornado that swept from Cedar Lake to Crown Point in Lake County, Indiana, and a tornado that swept from Chicago Lawn to West Englewood in Chicago were among the tornadoes that were reported by the National Weather Service.
Based on its peak winds of 90 miles per hour, its path length of 4.7 miles, and its greatest width of 300 yards, the Cedar Lake tornado was classified as an EF-1 tornado. EF-1 was also assigned to the tornado that struck Chicago, which had speeds of 90 miles per hour, a path length of 3.2 miles, and a maximum width of 150 yards.
As a result of the fact that the Weather Service has identified more than a dozen areas that still require surveying and analysis, it will take several more days to complete damage assessments. Currently, communities all around the region are dealing with the aftermath, which includes the destruction of property and disruptions in electricity supply.
Although the evaluation is still ongoing, the Weather Service would like to express gratitude to everyone who has provided information regarding the damage. When it comes to safety precautions and weather warnings, residents are strongly encouraged to stay tuned in.
