A Texas mother of two young daughters died and a man was wounded after Luis Antonio Garza allegedly ran both individuals over with his truck after arguing over $100. Garza, 26, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — his truck — and is still detained, according to a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office official. His bond is for $1 million.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, police arrived at a property in Edinburg shortly before 5 p.m. on July 14 and saw one of the victims, Briseida Cobarrubias, 20, lying in the road. Police said they then spoke with the second victim, Jorge Galvan, 27, who explained that he and Cobarrubias “were in an argument with Luis Garza” and had started to walk away from him when Garza got into his green Dodge Ram.

Garza allegedly slammed the gas and drove into the guy and woman, injuring both of them.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office claims that surveillance footage from the neighborhood confirms what Galvan told investigators. According to police, the footage also shows the crash.

Maria Mansano, Cobarrubias’ mother, told local CBS affiliate KVEO that she and her husband are currently caring for their late daughter’s two young girls. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the bereaved family with bills.

“They called us in the afternoon to say they had run her over, and when I arrived, I saw her face streaming blood from her mouth. “It was an argument between the guys, and she got involved,” Mansano stated.

Cobarrubias’ father stated that he and his wife attempted to contact their daughter to meet on Sunday afternoon. But she never replied to them. When authorities told the woman’s parents, the late woman’s father stated he initially felt the accident wasn’t too terrible.

According to police, Garza waived his Miranda rights and offered a video confession in which he stated that he got into an altercation with Galvan “over $100 Jorge owed him.”

“He intentionally drove his truck towards Jorge striking Jorge and Briseida causing her death,” the police reported.

The 26-year-old guy was arraigned on Monday, and it is unknown when he will appear next in court.

Galvan was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
