A man from Southern California was charged with elder abuse on December 21. He is also facing other charges related to an alleged brutal attack on a 90-year-old woman in her Valinda home in January of this year.
The following charges were brought against 29-year-old Jeremy Rahmelle Dates: domestic burglary with a person present, adult abuse, and attempted residential robbery. Dates pleaded not guilty to all three.
The District Attorney’s Office says that the case includes an accusation that the suspect hurt the victim, who is over 70 years old, quite badly during the attack at the victim’s Valinda home.
The charges come from an alleged attack on a 90-year-old woman in late January, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, information gathered by police during their investigation showed that the woman had been beaten and badly hurt in her face and head before her bedroom was searched.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau Burglary/Robbery Task Force arrested Mr. Dates on Tuesday during a traffic stop in Upland, the department said.
Jail records show that he has been locked up since then.
Mr. Dates will have a meeting to talk about his bail on Thursday. The District Attorney’s Office says that his bail is set at just over $1 million.
Officials from the sheriff’s office said that they were looking into whether the attack was linked to a string of home invasions and thefts in Southern California.
