A Texas woman suspected of attempting to drown a 3-year-old girl in an apartment complex pool in suburban Dallas has been re-arrested after her bond was raised to $1 million, according to court documents. Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was initially released on $40,000 bond after being charged with attempted capital murder and child injury. On May 19, Wolf allegedly made racial statements to the child’s mother before attempting to drown the infant.

Police in Euless, a Dallas suburb, said Wolf was “very intoxicated” at the time. The child’s mother told detectives that Wolf accused her of not being American and made other racial remarks. Wolf’s bond was enhanced at a court hearing last week, resulting in her re-arrest. Wolf was still in custody in Fort Worth on Wednesday, according to Tarrant County records. Wolf’s lawyer did not immediately return requests for comment.

The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) expressed relief at Wolf’s arrest. “CAIR-Texas remains committed to advocating for the family and the American Muslim community until justice, peace, and equity are achieved,” said Shaimaa Zayan, operations manager at CAIR-Austin. The children’s mother, who wears a headscarf, has indicated that she and her family are Palestinians who became American citizens, according to CAIR. Neither the police nor CAIR have revealed the mother’s name.

The child’s mother told detectives that after Wolf asked where she was from, he tried to kidnap her 6-year-old son before taking her 3-year-old daughter and forcing her underwater. The mother was able to pull her daughter, who was begging for aid and coughing up water, out of the pool. Both youngsters were medically checked and cleared.

Euless police have recommended that Tarrant County prosecutors investigate the case as a hate crime. A spokesman for the district attorney’s office confirmed that the matter is now being reviewed. Euless police Capt. Brenda Alvarado said the incident is being investigated as a hate crime. The Tarrant County district attorney’s office has received the case for filing, and the situation is still being investigated.

On May 19, witnesses reported to police that a “very intoxicated” woman attempted to drown a child and argued with the child’s mother at the apartment complex pool. Officers approached Wolf as she attempted to leave and arrested her on suspicion of public intoxication. According to the child’s mother, Wolf questioned where she was from and whether the two children playing in the pool were hers. According to CAIR-Texas, the mother is Muslim and Palestinian. She was wearing a headscarf and modest swimwear.

Wolf allegedly stated that the mother was not American and made other racial remarks, according to authorities. “When the mother responded, Wolf attempted to grab her 6-year-old son, but he resisted, resulting in a scratch on his finger.” “The mother began assisting her son when Wolf grabbed her 3-year-old daughter and forced her underwater,” police said in a press release. The mother was able to take her kid from the water, although she had been begging for aid and coughing up water.

flipthemedia issued a statement applauding the decision to rearrest Wolf. “The devastated family and the American Muslim community are temporarily relieved to learn that the alleged offender has been arrested again. “We thank local and federal law enforcement for the arrest and progress in the case investigation,” stated Shaimaa Zayan, CAIR-Texas Operations Manager.

Wolf’s court date is planned on October 17, according to the docket. The case continues to receive attention because it highlights the ongoing challenges of hate crimes and racial prejudice in the United States. The community and advocacy groups, including as CAIR, are closely monitoring the proceedings in the hopes of reaching a resolution that gives justice and peace to the impacted families.
