The death of a 12-year-old girl who was raped, strangled, and later discovered in a stream in Texas has led to the arrest of two suspects, each of whom has been charged with capital murder in connection with the incident.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Houston Police Department identified the youngster as Jocelyn Nungaray. According to the authorities, the body of Nungaray was found in a creek that was rather shallow at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Monday.

During a press conference held on Thursday afternoon, the Acting Chief of Police, Larry Satterwhite, stated that the sight was nothing short of a terrible one. Authorities have stated that two individuals, Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, age 21, and Franklin Jose Penaramos, age 26, were taken into custody on Thursday morning for the purpose of interrogation and were subsequently arrested on allegations of capital murder.

The police had earlier requested assistance from the general public in locating the two individuals, and they expressed gratitude to everyone for their contributions and support. With the use of security footage that was given by the community, Satterwhite stated that the police were able to pinpoint the whereabouts of Nungaray and her attackers in the moments preceding up to her death.

It was discovered by the detectives that the suspects had dinner together on the evening of the murder, which was a Sunday, according to Lieutenant Stephen Hope. Soon after finishing their lunch, they exited the restaurant and started walking about the neighborhood. According to Hope, the suspects can be seen approaching Nungaray in the security tape. He stated that they eventually walked to a convenience shop and then they walked to a bridge before she was murdered. At the conclusion of the investigation conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the authorities determined that the girl had died as a result of being strangled.
