“Random” shooting in Michigan injured nine people, including two children, according to investigators.
On Saturday, June 15, at around 5 p.m. local time, a gunman opened fire at a splash pad in the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard, who spoke at a press conference captured by Click on Detroit.
Bouchard stated that officials were “on the scene in two minutes” and that deputies administered “emergency first aid” to the victims.
According to Bouchard, eight people were hospitalized. He added that an 8-year-old boy was critically injured after being shot in the head, while a 4-year-old youngster with a gunshot wound to the thigh was stable. Their family also included a 39-year-old lady who was classified in critical condition.
Other casualties include a 39-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman, a 30-year-old male, a 78-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old guy, all of whom are in stable condition, according to Bouchard.
According to CBS News, the shooter was 42-year-old Michael William Nash, who committed suicide in a residence shortly after the shooting.

According to Bouchard, the shooting appeared to be “very random” and the perpetrator had “no connectivity to the victims.”
According to the Associated Press, which cited Bouchard, the shooter may have fired up to 28 rounds. “I, in my worst nightmare, couldn’t imagine standing up here again talking about another active shooter,” Bouchard stated during his Saturday press conference.
“Unfortunately, this has become far too typical in America, and particularly in our town. And I am very, very proud of our people, once again, amid very difficult conditions,” he added.
The suspect “did not have a criminal history that we’re aware of,” according to the sheriff.
According to people.com, Rochester Hills Mayor Brian Barnett stated at a press conference that things “have been a nightmare” since the deadly shooting.
“I’ve been blessed to be the mayor of this city for 18 years, and [I] never thought I’d see my city in the same sentence as some of the other cities that have experienced mass shootings,” Barnett stated. “Whenever you have a situation like this, you are reminded of the immediate tragedy and then of course encouraged by the support of people that surround themselves almost immediately.”
