Indianapolis — A teenager has been charged with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old at a Halloween party in October, just hours after being arrested by Indianapolis police for a carjacking.

On October 21, 2023, crews from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to an east-side gas station to investigate a shooting. Edwin Simon-Osorio, 15, died of a gunshot wound after attending a neighboring Halloween party, according to medics.

Almost eight months later, IMPD has charged 17-year-old Alan Peregrino in connection with the shooting. Just hours after the shooting, IMPD apprehended Peregrino for a neighboring carjacking.

IMPD contacted neighbors who stated a large Halloween party was taking place in the 5400 block of E. 20th Street with over 100 individuals attending. Around 1:30 a.m., five to ten gunshots went out, and one neighbor witnessed at least 50 people flee the party.

While gathering evidence from the gunshot scene, officers discovered a broken tree limb in the street as well as many fired 9mm bullet casings.

According to court filings, IMPD began interrogating partygoers who claimed Peregrino was inebriated, causing disputes, and flashing two pistols inside the party.

Witnesses reported that the Peregrino later went outside and began rapping while pointing the gun’s laser at bystanders. Simon-Osorio allegedly instructed Peregrino to “chill and put the guns away,” and the suspect was heard replying, “Na, na.” “I’m gonna start shooting.”

Shortly after being summoned to investigate the gunshot, IMPD officers were alerted to a carjacking just a few blocks away. A neighbor stated that a guy, later identified as Peregrino, had crashed a stolen automobile near his house while brandishing a gun.

Police then found the gun, a 9mm Glock 17 with an extended magazine and a green laser sight that the neighbor had taken from the suspect, and arrested Peregrino. Victims recalled how, as they fled the party, Peregrino hopped into their car and forced them to drive at gunpoint.

IMPD detectives were quickly informed that Alan, a Hispanic male with an “Edgar” hairdo, was the shooter. Officers discovered that the alleged gunman and the carjacking suspect shared the same name.

Court filings filed Monday in Marion County Court describe how lab forensics teams identified Peregrino’s gun from gunshot shells discovered on the scene. Videos from the party also showed Peregrino flashing guns and multiple witnesses identified him from a photo array lineup.

With this evidence, Peregrino has been charged with criminal murder. He made his initial court appearance Wednesday morning to discover his charge and is scheduled to return in a few weeks to review his legal representation.

Peregrino is accused of kidnapping while hijacking a vehicle, armed robbery, criminal irresponsibility, and other counts in connection with the carjacking. A pretrial meeting for this matter is planned for next Tuesday, June 18 reported fox59.com.
