A 50-year-old man died while working on a vehicle after a car jack collapsed, according to South Carolina officials.

Shawn Petty was characterized by loved ones as “one of a kind.” Shortly before 5 p.m., the man was working underneath the truck at his Starr house, supported by a jack. Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore issued a news release on December 7.

However, the automobile jack failed, and the vehicle toppled on Petty’s chest, trapping him, Shore added. Friends and family rescued Petty from beneath the truck before first responders arrived, but he died at the scene, according to the coroner.
