JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was taken into custody Monday morning after police charged her with her boyfriend’s murder, which occurred Sunday night inside a residence on Jacksonville’s Northside, according to the sheriff’s office.
Brittany Bryant, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder in the deadly stabbing of Devvin McCray, 34. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office previously informed First Coast News that three people were apprehended after McCray was discovered dead inside a residence on 3rd Avenue. It is unclear whether Bryant was among the three people taken for questioning.
According to JSO Sergeant Reed, patrol officers responded to a home on 3rd Avenue at 9:40 p.m. Sunday to conduct a “well-being check.”
When officers arrived, McCray was discovered “unresponsive,” and members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and pronounced him dead, according to police. According to the police report, McCray “could be seen through a side window of the residence, and he was lying face down in a pool of blood.”
“There was blood splatter all over the window and the room the victim could be seen in through the window,” according to the inquiry.
According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, McCray was stabbed in the chest and back at least once.
According to the report, one person being questioned by investigators, whose identity is unknown due to the redacted report, informed officers that Bryant and McCray “have been known to fight a lot and batter each other.” The same person also stated that Bryant suffers from schizophrenia.
Two additional people interviewed by JSO confirmed that Bryant is also diagnosed with schizophrenia. According to the article, Bryant is expecting McCray’s child, and the two share “several children.”
